The 100K Mile Tune-Up Your Vagina Deserves
#36: Why postmenopause is the time for intentional, precision care, not autopilot.
If you’re new here—hello, and if you’ve been fanning yourself with us for a while—you know what we’re about: lifestyle-driven, evidence-based insights that empower a thriving, self-defined menopause journey.
This week, we’re spotlighting recent research related to your pelvic-vaginal health—a system that likely only gets reactive maintenance when something goes wrong. Something meaning…discomfort, urinary urgency, pain with sex or peeing, and for too many of us—an estimated up to 84% in postmenopause—recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Here’s the lens we’re using:
I recently heard a podcast where a gynecologist compared our bodies to cars that clock 2,000 miles per year. That means that by the time we hit age 50, we’re essentially driving a 100,000-mile vehicle—of which our pelvic system is a part.
And let’s be honest: that likely includes a few miles on your vulva and vagina (wink, wink). This isn’t about shame—this is about life itself. Those miles include periods, sex, hormones, and, for many, childbirth.
It’s no longer about forgetting oil changes or being nonchalant about tune-ups. It’s about giving this part of your body the intentional care it deserves at this stage. A high-mileage system needs intentional care—not because it's failing, but because it's still running and deserves to run well.
